Periodontal Care

Periodontitis also is known as gum disease, is a very common infection that damages not only the soft tissues but also the bones surrounding it. In case you have periodontal disease and that does not get treated properly, then that can infect the jawbones causing serious problems.
Plaque formation around the gumline, if left untreated, can cause periodontal problems. It hardens to form tartar that cannot be removed by regular brushing. If this is left untreated for a longer period of time, then it can lead to tooth loss as well.

One of the best ways to keep periodontal diseases away is by maintaining daily proper oral hygiene routine. This will reduce pocket formation around the teeth and in turn, will also prevent infections and bacterias to penetrate into the roots of the teeth. This is a chronic and long term oral problem that can be cured and prevented if you maintain proper oral hygiene.

Advanced periodontitis

In case you have advanced periodontitis, then surgical inventions might be needed. Some of the advanced periodontitis treatment will include:

  • Flap surgery- This is done to remove calculus from in the deep pockets. This helps in reducing pockets so that cleaning becomes easier. Once the tartar is removed, the gums are lifted back.
  • Bones and tissue grafts- This helps in regenerating bones and gums that have been destroyed. Natural or synthetic bones are placed in the area where the original bones were lost. This helps in promoting bone growth.

There are many other treatment methods including soft tissue graft, Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR) and so on. The process chosen by the dentist will depend on the oral conditions of the patient.
